Robert Keane McFall, 83, of Bethlehem, PA, formerly of Hornell, NY, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Corning, NY and was the son of John H. (Jack) McFall and DeSeilles (Keane) McFall. He graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1944, attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, where he played second base on the baseball team, and Alfred University. He married Jane Benedict of Corning in 1956 and later relocated to Hornell in 1964.
Robert served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, serving in Europe. Upon his discharge from the military, he was employed for 34 years as a civil engineer at the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed baseball, particularly the New York Yankees, and was an avid reader, especially any newspaper. He was a Rockefeller Republican, but later became a strong supporter of the Democratic Party. Those who met him particularly enjoyed his Irish wit. He loved attending Celtic Fest in Bethlehem and musical events. He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola church in Hornell. He served as a Little League coach and a basketball coach at the YMCA in Hornell. He was a good man and a loving father who was always there for members of his family.
Robert's family would like to recognize the many friends he made while living at Atria, of Bethlehem. Robert treasured all the laughter they shared.
Robert's wife of 42 years, Jane Benedict McFall, predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Bernard) Brandstetter of Bethlehem, PA; his sons, Timothy McFall of Pompano Beach, FL; and Jonathan (Nancy) McFall of North Plainfield, NJ; and his grandchildren, Robert Brandstetter of Bethlehem, PA; and Alexander McFall of North Plainfield, NJ. His brother, John "Mick" McFall, of El Paso, TX, also predeceased him.
